Health Insurance Awareness Day Event is on February 7th at the Asheville Area Chamber of Commerce
An upcoming event at the Asheville Chamber of Commerce should be of special interest to local employees, employers, college students, and seniors with concerns about health insurance. Various aspects of health insurance to be discussed include the growing number of issues for the uninsured, those presently insured under the Affordable Care Act, disability insurance, long-term care insurance, and Medicare supplements.
Health Insurance Awareness Day will be held on the second floor of the Chamber of Commerce on Tuesday, Feb. 7. Andrea Block, with a regional brokerage agency said, "We are at a very volatile time now, and want everybody to be able to come and ask questions regarding their healthcare. We want people to feel comfortable voicing their concerns, and to become better educated about the new rules and regulations."
Block said members from the Western North Carolina Association of Health Underwriters (WNCAHU) would be there, along with anybody else who wants to ask questions of their panel of professionals. These three experts will include Jimm Bunch; the CEO and president of Park Ridge Health, Michael Weizman, MD; a private physician and co-founder of Our Family Doctor, and David Block; president of Insurance Specialties and Pine Street Insurance Services, and the law and legislative chair for the North Carolina Association of Health Underwriters (NCAHU) and WNCAHU.
After a brief presentation, the panel will address questions from the audience submitted to a moderator, Blake Spell from Crescent Health Solutions. "Our panel of informed speakers will offer accurate answers, as opposed to opinions currently circulating within the media." Block said she wants to encourage people to ask their agents if they are WNCAHU members, and if not, why not? "Why would you want to do business with anyone who is not a member of their professional association?"
Between her and her husband, they have decades of experience in the insurance business. The second week in February, Andrea Block as president-elect of WNCAHU, and her husband David will be in Washington, D.C. for Capitol Conference with current WNCAHU president Bret Brunmaier, Mike Norris who is the Political Action Committee chair for the local chapter, and Tom Ashby, N.C. and local awards chair. National Association of Health Underwriters (NAHU) members from across the country will join them to meet with senators and congressmen to discuss health insurance issues. "There are a number of things in both the individual and group markets that agents have concerns about based on our clients," said Block.
Health Insurance Awareness Day will be held from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Asheville Area Chamber of Commerce in Montford. Admission is free of charge and open to the public.
